AUTO THEFT

A vehicle is stolen every 25 seconds or approximately 250,000
times a year.  Some vehicles were so easy to steal, the thief came
back a second time, to steal it again.  Auto theft is a national
problem.  Whether it be a young kid stealing a car for a joy ride or
a professional for its parts, auto theft is a preventable crime.

PREVENTION TIPS

Anti-theft systems include but are not limited to siren alarms, starter
disablers, motion sensors, remote control activation, panic buttons
and shock detectors on doors, windows and trunk lids.  A beeper
can alert the owner when someone trips the system.

For less than $100 you can buy an electronic "club" from Grimberg
Enterprises.  The steering wheel alarm with infrared remote control
fits over any steering wheel.  It has a flashing strobe, alternating
warning LED's and a 125 dB alarm.

MORE PREVENTION TIPS

Park in a secure well lighted area.
Close all windows and lock all doors.
Take the keys with you.  Twenty five percent of all stolen vehicles
had the keys in them.
Activate any anti-theft devices.
Never hide a key around your car.
Lo-Jack and On-Star are not anti-theft devices.  They are vehicle
recovery systems.
Some cars are stolen by prying the steering column and accessing
the ignition switch.  A steel collar which is permanently bolted and
glued to the steering column makes it impossible to pry.
Some cars are stolen by prying out the ignition switch.  An ignition
kill switch can be placed inside the vehicle which can be turned off
by the owner.
